Dental Exams & Cleanings
Healthy teeth matter no matter how old you are. The team at Rocheleau Dental is here to handle the general dental needs for you and your loved ones of all ages. With attentive care and state-of-the-art dental technology, our practice is equipped to diagnose and treat your unique needs and help you be your healthiest and most confident self.
It’s important to stay on top of your dental health with consistent bi-annual checkups and cleanings. At these appointments, we can detect cavities and gum disease before they escalate, and we can review any problems you’re already experiencing to determine if you need further treatment. Our regular cleanings will polish stained teeth and remove the tartar and plaque that can build up in those hard-to-reach spots you don’t always reach during daily brushing and flossing.
Preventative Care
Even though it’s easy to overlook, consistent oral hygiene is important to your overall health—and not just because healthy teeth are important for eating. A healthy mouth is often the first line of defense against infectious diseases by preventing the buildup of bacteria. Your mouth is also often one of the first places where signs of systemic illnesses can be detected. And of course, the confidence that comes from a healthy smile is a bonus.
While regular exams and cleanings from a dental professional are essential, it’s equally important to take care of your teeth and gums at home. There are several guidelines for effective brushing and flossing. Contact our office if you have any questions about proper brushing and flossing.
Brushing
✓ Brush at least twice a day, with each brush lasting for two minutes.
✓ Use fluoride toothpaste and a gentle bristled toothbrush that is no more than three months old (electric toothbrushes are also recommended for their efficiency and ease of use).
✓ Place the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle where the teeth and gums meet.
✓ Gently brush the gum line and teeth with small circular motions.
✓ Brush the outer, inner, and biting surfaces of each tooth, and be sure to include the back teeth.
✓ Brush for two full minutes.
✓ Brush the tongue to remove food and plaque for a fresher breath.
✓ When finished, rinse vigorously to remove any plaque you may have loosened while brushing.
Flossing
✓ Take a piece of floss that is around 18 inches long and wrap it around the middle fingers of each hand until your hands are about 2 inches apart.
✓ Gently insert the floss between the teeth toward the gum line, using your thumb and forefingers to guide the floss.
✓ Curve the floss into a C-shape around each individual tooth, then carefully move the floss up and down in a scraping motion.
✓ Be careful not to pop floss in and out between the teeth, as this will inflame the gums.
✓ As the floss picks up food and plaque, turn from one finger to the other to start using a fresh section.
✓ Rinse when your flossing is complete.
